Anyone can shoot lower golf scores and improve their score card. Using course management and playing a round at your skill level can save you a lot of stokes.
One way to lower your score is to play at your skill level. What this means is to play with the golf clubs you're good with, or clubs that's not to much of a challenge for you. This will reduce bad shots during your round.
Golf is about accuracy, and consistency. If you want a better score, depending on your skill level, you may have too stop using the driver and long irons while playing a round until you get the skill necessary to use them. What's the point in using your driver, or long irons if 60% of the time it gets you into trouble. You will be better off using your shorter irons, and course management.
Better putting can definitely get you results. This is often overlooked by high handicappers. This is the first place you should start. It's something that anyone can improve quickly within a week or too. Putting is easy to practice, and can be done at home in your spare time.
This is also overlooked by a lot of golfers. I don't care how long you can hit a golf ball, without a short game you will not be able to achieve good scores. After the ball is off the tee, you still have an approach shot, and maybe a little pitching and chipping to do. Practice your short game often, you will be rewarded.
If you find that your golf swing is just not doing it for you, then you need to take steps to improve it. Don't just go to the golf range beating balls, you are not helping yourself. You need to really analyze what's going on and make the necessary changes. This may sound obvious, but I have seen some golfers with the very same problems for two to three years. Why, because they don't work on their swing at the golf range, they just beat balls. don't let this happen to you. Lowering your score by 5 to 10 stokes within a couple of weeks is very possible. Just use common sense when playing a round. If you're not good with certain golf clubs, don't use them until you get the necessary skill. Practice putting, and your short game, and your golf scores will come down in no time.
